Underfloor to workstation power
• Does your underfloor power distribution system (powertrack) comply with the new 543.7 high integrity regulations (part of BS 7671 : 2008)?

All unfused tap-offs comply with Regulation 543.7 without the need for additional earth conductors. Regulation 543.7.1.103 (ii) states "a single copper protective conductor having a cross-sectional area of not less than 4 mm2, complying with the requirements of Regulations 543.2 and 543.3, the protective conductor being enclosed to provide additional protection against mechanical damage, for example, within a flexible conduit."

For installations with high protective conductor currents requiring fused tap-offs, a 543.7 compliant tap-off must be used. Normally fused tap-offs incorporate 1.5 mm2 conductors, however, in the Legrand fused 543.7 tap-offs, the 1.5 mm2 earth conductor is replaced with a 4 mm2 conductor and are therefore compliant with Section 543.7.1.103 (ii).

• Does your Electrak Intersoc-R under-desk range comply with the desk electrics standard (BS 6396:2008)?

For compliance with this standard, socket configurations should be individually fused as follows:

5 or 6 sockets = 3.15 A

Legrand offers suitably protected sockets within our Intersoc-R under-desk range.

• Can I still buy the old Electrak 'twist & push' underfloor system?

This product range has been out of production for a long time, however, we can still offer the unfused tap-off units for it.

• Do you offer a lighting design service?

Unfortunately we cannot offer a lighting design service. This should be available from the lighting supplier.

• Can we still obtain the Electrak EPOS sockets?

Yes, we still supply a range of non-standard unswitched twin sockets and 'key plugs'. Click here for the relevant catalogue page.

• Can I use a 32 A unfused tap-off unit on a powertrack system with lengths over 3 m?

Yes, but if the tap-off is over 3 m in length then the powertrack run must be protected by a protective device not exceeding 32 A.

• What is a PIR presence detector?

A PIR presence detector works by detecting the movement of body heat. The 'switching' occurs due to an infrared signature being registered as differing from one point to another.

PIR (Passive Infrared) Detection
• What is a Microwave presence detector?

Microwave presence detectors are sensitive to movement and are ideal for large spaces and areas that have an awkward shape or where fine motion detection is required. They can detect through glass, therefore careful consideration on location is needed in certain applications.

Microwave Detectors
• What is a motion detector?

A motion detector is a device that detects moving objects, particularly people. Such a device is often integrated as a component of a system that automatically performs a task or alerts a user of motion in an area. They form a vital component of security, automated lighting control, home control, energy efficiency, and other useful systems. Motion detectors are also known as 'presence detectors'.

• What is an occupancy sensor?

An occupancy sensor is an indoor motion detecting devices used to detect the presence of a person to automatically control lights or temperature or ventilation systems. The sensors use infrared, ultrasonic, microwave, or other technology. The term encompasses devices as different as PIR sensors, hotel room keycard locks and smart meters. Occupancy sensors are typically used to save energy, provide automatic control, and comply with building codes. Occupancy sensors are also known as 'presence detectors'.
