Legrand doubles up at Smart Solutions Awards

Legrand UK & Ireland walked away from the 2018 Smart Solutions Awards as a double-award winner, taking home the coveted top prizes for ‘Best Residential Product’ and ‘Outstanding Contribution’.

Held on the 10th October at the NEC, Birmingham, as part of UK Digital Construction Week, Legrand’s MyHOME_Up – the latest generation of its highly successful modular home automation system, which now benefits from app connectivity – fought off stiff competition to take the top prize in the ‘Residential’ category.

MyHOME_Up helps developers easily overcome the challenge of including home automation in their new-build housing projects, as the system takes care of integrating all the essential services in a modern home, such as lighting, temperature control, shading (automated curtain control), audio and door entry.

The system makes installers’ lives easier through the use of the intuitive ‘app’ configuration tool. This allows installers to set-up and handover a home automation system in a fraction of the time that they would have previously been able to do so. MyHOME_Up also empowers homeowners as the new app allows them to take control of key functions from the palm of their hand and stay connected when they’re at home and out and about.

Legrand’s second award of the day came in the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ category, with the organisers choosing to keep the nominees a closely-guarded secret until the moment of truth. The accolade ultimately went to Richard Hayward, Sales Director for the Wiring Devices Business Unit for Legrand UK & Ireland.

Richard has spent the last eight years working across Legrand’s Wiring Devices portfolio and has been a driving force in the take-up of home automation solutions among UK contractors and developers during that time.

Richard comments: “I’m both hugely proud and humbled to be recognised for my contribution to this industry. It is one that I genuinely love to work in, and I have been immensely lucky to work alongside some fantastic people. I believe the excitement and potential for growth is bigger now than it has ever been, thanks to a near ‘perfect storm’ of product development and accessibility, consumer demand and developer take-up.

“Ultimately, we are in the business of developing products that can help people to live their lives better. Home automation has moved from an aspirational concept to one that is firmly accessible to everyone, at a variety of market entry points. The demand for building automation across both the residential and commercial sectors is only going to get bigger, and I am very excited to continue my journey throughout this industry and find out what the future has to hold.”
