Our history
Legrand's French roots date back to 1865, and more locally, the company first established in the UK in 1971. The company's growth has traditionally been fuelled by innovation and the steady stream of new, high value-added product launches this brings, plus acquisitions of companies that (typically) hold leading positions and have specialised technological expertise in growing markets.
Here are some of the key milestones in the Legrand UK journey to date:
1971 - Establishment of Legrand Electric in the UK
1980 - Acquisition of Contour Wiring Accessories
(providing Legrand with it's first UK based manufacturing plant)
1982 - Manufacturing moves to Milton Keynes and Saxon wiring accessories are born
1988 - Acquisition of Switchplan Automated Lighting Systems
1992 - Acquisition of Tenby Industries
(Tenby wiring accessories, consumer units and earth clamps)
1995 - Acquisition of Power Centre Holdings and Rolfe King Ltd
1996 - Acquisition of Nimstone Limited (emergency lighting) and P&R Sales Ltd
2001 - Acquisition of Wiremold
(including Davis, Salamandre, Electrunk, Swifts and Arena-Walsall brands)
2003 - Acquisition of Ortronics
2005 - Launch of Synergy wiring accessories
2005 - Acquisition of Zucchini and Cablofil
2008 - Acquisition of Electrak
2009 - Launch of Arteor wiring accessories and home automation
2009 - Merger of Legrand Ireland into UK activity
2010 - Creation of the power distribution business unit (merging Zucchini and Electrak)
2011 - Salamandre trunking is redesigned
2013 - Launch of Electrak Intersoc-R desk modules
2013 - Acquisition of Tynetec and Aid Call (assisted living and healthcare brands)
2015 - Legrand celebrates 35 years of manufacturing in the UK
